Rissa de Montgomery was the wife of Ednoth FitzHarding, son of Harding FitzEdnoth, son of Ednoth the Staller. She was the mother of Robert FitzHarding, who was given Berkeley Castle by the King. Her father was Roger de Montgomery, aka Roger Arundel, who built Montgomery Castle at Montgomery, Wales, to protect the English border from the Welsh. He was the 1st Earl of Shewsbury, Sire of Alencon, and Earl of Shropshire and Shewsbury. He was buried in Shewsbury Cathedral. Rissa’s mother was Mabile, Dame de Belleme and d’Alencon.

View CommentSo interesting. Thanks for getting in touch. Has your wife traced her family back to the Fitzhardings? When I take my next trip, I plan on going back to England and doing more searching in the Hereford area. My Richard Stallings, who came to Calvert County, Maryland, in 1657, is hard to nail down; but I’m pretty sure he came from the Hereford and Richard’s Castle areas. If you know any more about the families, I’d love to hear about it. Did you visit my website, stallingsfamilysearch.com? Til later, Mary Ann Kincer
